Ecopetrol is committed to carrying out a Just Energy Transition framed in the respect of human rights (HHRR). The Company promotes among its partners, associates, and other actors with whom it has a contractual or commercial relationship, the respect for HHRR, especially within the framework of those activities that are carried out within Ecopetrol.
The Company reaffirms its commitment to respect the HHRR established in the International Charter of Human Rights and in the International Labor Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, as well as the adherence to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Ten Principles of the Global Compact, and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
Ecopetrol promotes the implementation of practices associated with diversity and inclusion, the equal enjoyment of rights, whilst encouraging environments free of violence, discrimination and sexual or workplace harassment, where all people feel welcome, valued, respected, and can deploy their full potentialregardless of their identity.
Similarly, with the aim of contributing to the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals, Ecopetrol is committed to the Paris Agreement and understands the importance of incorporating respect for HHRR in the energy transition process for climate change mitigation. Therefore, the Company is committed to develop scenarios for dialogue and participation with stakeholders in the prevention of possible impacts as well as the identification and implementation of opportunities and solutions to the environmental and social challenges.
In accordance with responsible business conduct, Ecopetrol S. A. has defined and implemented its Human Rights commitment for more than a decade.
The Company has a Human Rights and Business Guide, since 2019. It was last updated in 2023. It incorporates national and international standards in this area and meets the expectations of interest groups. ((See our updated Human Rights and Company Guide))
The Guide reflects Ecopetrol Group’s commitment to respecting and promoting human rights in the development of its activities and in the framework of its relations with stakeholders.
Through this document, Ecopetrol Group highlights its adherence to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP), the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. It also notes its commitment to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, Convention 169 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Performance Standards established by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Convention on Biological Diversity and UN General Assembly Resolution 76/300 on the Human Right to a Healthy Environment
Ecopetrol encourages its partners, allies, clients, agents, and other actors with whom it has any contractual or commercial relationship, to operate with consideration and respect for Human Rights, and in compliance with the Human Rights and Business Guide, especially in the framework of those activities that are carried out jointly.
Ecopetrol constantly works to update and consolidate its Human Rights policy, taking as a reference the best practices, national and international guidelines and standards, the recommendations of evaluation agents, as well as the social, economic and environmental dynamics; since 2009, the Company has built various tools that guide Ecopetrol and its Group towards responsible business conduct.
In pursuit of respectful and responsible management throughout all of its operations and activities, as well as in the supply chain and in relations with interest groups, Ecopetrol raises awareness and trains its employees in Human Rights.
In the awareness-raising and training processes, Ecopetrol, in addition to opening up various face-to-face and synchronous spaces, has e-learning tools through which it helps employees understand how to implement their commitment to respecting and promoting human rights, within the framework of responsible business conduct.

2023 was an important year for the Company in terms of human rights, thanks to the strengthening of our public commitment and the performance across of the organization.
Considering the importance of continuing to integrate respect for human rights into our Strategy 2040, as an enabling factor for achieving the company´s goals, especially those associated with the Just Energy Transition, this concept was incorporated as a fundamental element for the management of human rights in Ecopetrol.
