The Ecopetrol Group contracted goods and services for over COP 15 trillion

  • This figure has contributed to boosting the Colombian economy and equals 4% of the nation’s budget for 2022.

  • Transactions totaling more than COP 3 trillion were completed with local regional suppliers

  • In the same period, Group companies generated more than 93,000 jobs through contractor companies.

Between January and August 2022, the companies of the Ecopetrol Group contracted goods and services for COP 15.3 trillion to carry out their activities in the various regions of the country. This amount equals 4% of the nation’s overall budget for this year, which totals COP 350.4 trillion.

The Ecopetrol Group generated business opportunities with local suppliers in the regions where it operates for COP 3.1 trillion, of which COP 2.2 trillion were contracted by Group companies and COP 900 trillion by related entities.

The geographical distribution of this procurement shows that the largest extent of the contracting was conducted in the central region of the country, which includes the Barrancabermeja refinery and the mid-Magdalena oil fields, reaching close to COP 1 trillion. Next was the Orinoquía region, which received COP 728 billion, the Caribbean with COP 300 billion, and the eastern Andean region with COP 518 billion.

The results, which showcase the Ecopetrol Group’s contribution to the economy and its commitment to support the economic development of Colombia, were conveyed at the Suppliers Summit held in Bogotá this Wednesday, October 12, 2022, wherein representatives of more than 3,400 contracting firms we present.

During the event, it was also reported that in the course of this year to August, the Ecopetrol Group created over 93 thousand full-time jobs through contractor companies. Of these, 84% were for local labor, meaning individuals native to and living in the regions where they were hired.

Likewise, of the total number of jobs created, more than 20,000 are jobs for those who face challenges in procuring employment, including 17,033 women, 131 individuals with disabilities, 1,686 for whom this was their first job, 1,306 members of ethnic groups, and 404 victims of the conflict.

Additionally, the Ecopetrol Group continues to implement a program to support diverse productive ventures, promoting businesses worth over COP 46.2 billion run by more than 2,300 entrepreneurs in different areas of the country.

According to Carlos Andrés Santos, Vice President of Supply and Services, one of the keys to achieving greater economic competitiveness in the region has been to work jointly with allied companies.

“We have encouraged the contracting of goods and services with local suppliers in the areas where we operate, which translates into benefits for the local communities and thousands of families. At the Ecopetrol Group, our commitment is to continue ratifying inclusive relationships and focusing our energy to contribute to the well-being of Colombians," Santos said.

In this way, Ecopetrol and its allied companies encourage economic growth and foster the competitiveness of companies nationwide, while contributing to the sustainable development of the regions where we operate.
