Hocol announces drilling results for the Coralino-1 well in the Colombian Caribbean

Oct 6, 2022

  • The Coralino-1 well was successfully drilled and the presence of gas was identified in the department of Córdoba.

  • The Coralino-1 well is part of the exploration and production contract celebrated between Hocol and the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) VIM-8 and is located in the southeast end of the Lower Magdalena Valley basin (VIM for its Spanish acronym), in which Hocol holds a 100% interest.

Hocol, an Ecopetrol Business Group company, announces the successful drilling of the Coralino-1 well, which displays the presence of gas in various levels of the reservoir rock associated with the Ciénaga de Oro formation, the main producing rock of the Lower Magdalena Valley. The Coralino-1 well is located 60 kilometers southeast of Montería, in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, department of Córdoba.

The drilling of this exploratory well identified the presence of gas in a structure close to the Arrecife discovery in the VIM 8 block. Drilling of the Coralino-1 well took place between August 3 and September 1, 2022, reaching a total depth of 10,800 feet (3,292 meters).

The interpretation of petrophysical well logs and the information acquired during the drilling indicate the presence of natural gas in various sandstone intervals of the Ciénaga de Oro Superior formation of Miocene geological age, whose upper level was found at 7,979 feet (2,432 meters). With this result from the Coralino well, Hocol will move forward to assess the find. Work is currently underway to start the testing period in the coming months, which will allow us to establish the productivity of the reservoir and its commercial viability.
