Ecopetrol totals a fleet of 257 electric vehicles in its operations

Between 2021 and 2022, the Company replaced 123 conventional vehicles with electric vehicles, which represents 25% of the fleet contracted by the company, reducing CO 2 e emissions by more than 95 tons per year.

The initiative is part of the decarbonization plan of the Ecopetrol Group, which seeks to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050. Ecopetrol’s fleet includes a total of 257 electric vehicles that are being used in its operations for the transportation of personnel in different areas of the country, in line with the Company's commitment to contribute to mitigating climate change and moving forward in the energy transition.

The project to include electric vehicles included the replacement of 123 conventional vehicles, which is equal to 25% of the operational fleet contracted by the company, which has reduced CO2e emissions by more than 95 tons per year.

In 2022 alone, Ecopetrol included 72 new electric vehicles in its fleet, servicing the Company’s operations in Barrancabermeja (38), Villavicencio (12), Yopal (9), Cartagena (6), Neiva (4), Rubiales (2) and Orito (1). By 2025, Ecopetrol intends that 50% of its vehicle fleet in the company’s operating areas will be electric.

“We continue to support the energy transition by ensuring sustainable mobility with low carbon emissions and therefore help reduce environmental impacts. It is a team effort, which we have been carrying out jointly with our local partners throughout the country”, explained Fernando Meneses Montes, Manager of Ecopetrol Shared Services. During 2023, the Company plans to add another 20 electric vehicles to its fleet, including both cars and buses, to end the year with a total of 299 electric vehicles.

By 2025, the total number of electric vehicles in its fleet is expected to total 423 units, equal to 50% of the fleet. This would reduce CO 2 emissions by about 560 tons per year, which is equal to planting more than 17,000 trees.

The initiative is part of the decarbonization plan of the Ecopetrol Group, which seeks to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050, applying innovation and technology to contribute to sustainable mobility, improving the quality of life of our employees and all Colombians.
